Miracle Herbs That Melt
Away Cellulite
Believe it or not, there are many herbs and spices
that can help
detoxify
the liver and restore it to full function. Oftentimes, these herbs
are multi-purpose and aid the body in combating a variety of different
ailments. Who knew nature was so giving?
The reason that some herbs are so great at combating
cellulite is that these
herbs are thermogenic, anti-inflammatory, or both. What that means is
that they
boost your metabolism so you burn fat more easily, and reduce
inflammation at
the cellular level, which has a noticeable effect on cellulite.
Incorporate at least a few of these herbs and spices
into your diet, and you’ll be
amazed at the results.
Milk Thistle
Milk thistle is perhaps the number one herb used in
helping the liver and is
widely accepted in Europe as an effective treatment for liver disease.
In 1986,
Germany’s Commission E approved an oral extract of milk thistle to treat
alcoholic
hepatitis, alcoholic fatty liver, liver cirrhosis, and liver poisoning.
It’s also
used to protect the liver from the effects of medications that might
prove to be
toxic. Milk thistle is one of the few herbs that has no real equivalent
in conventional
medicine.
Varro E. Tyler, Ph.D., Sc. D., professor emeritus of
pharmacology at Purdue
University states that “milk thistle can’t be beat as a liver
protector”, (Duke 1999,
p. 185). It’s been used for over 2000 years in the treatment of liver
problems.
The ancient Roman, Pliny suggested that milk thistle helped the liver
carry away
bile and the British herbalist Culpepper noticed how taking milk thistle
helped
in cases of jaundice and helped in removing liver obstructions.
So what is it that makes milk thistle so special?
Researchers have found a certain
compound in milk thistle called silymarin. Silymarin is an antioxidant
that
protects cells and inhibits the growth of tumors. Studies also suggested
that
silymarin protects and promotes the regeneration of liver cells. An
Italian study
showed silymarin reduced damage to liver cells caused by chronic use of
some
prescription drugs.
Silymarin strengthens the outer surface of the liver
making it very difficult for
toxins to enter. It also encourages a reaction between enzymes that
promotes
faster and more proficient regeneration of the liver cells. The faster
old cells can
be replaced, the more efficient the liver will be in the detoxification
process.
Artichoke Extract
Artichoke extract is a close cousin to the milk
thistle. It protects your liver and
even helps to regenerate healthy cells in an already damaged liver. Like
milk
thistle, the use of artichoke has a storied history. As doctors in the
Middle Ages
began to recognize how important the liver was to overall health, they
began to
experiment using artichoke as a means of medicine and prevention.
The French use artichoke juice as a liver tonic and
scientists from Switzerland
and Japan have documented artichokes ability to break down fat and
improve
bile flow. As previously noted, the better the bile flow, the better the
liver is able
to rid the body of waste including fat globules.
Artichoke extract has been shown to enhance liver
detoxification and protect it
from the toxin damage. During the detoxification process, the toxic
substances
are often initially converted to an even more toxic form. Without enough
protection
from herbs like artichoke or milk thistle, every time the liver
neutralizes a
toxin, it gets damaged in the process.
Once again, it’s all about the liver and lymphatic
systems being able to function
at peak performance.
