What the Heck Does
Cellulite Have to Do with Your Liver?
If you’d told me a year ago that my liver played a
key role in my tendency to accumulate fat and cellulite on my thighs and
butt, I’d have dismissed it with hardly a thought. But then I started
researching the connection between livery toxicity and a number of
physical ailments, and soon become convinced otherwise.
It turns out that most of us take our livers for
granted. Here we have these hard working, unassuming little organs that
do all the heavy lifting in our digestive processes, and we just keep
loading them up with saturated fats, alcohol, environmental pollutants,
and all the other toxic burdens of living our fast-food, quick-fix
lifestyles.
So it’s no wonder that as a society we’re fatter
and sicker than ever.
Here’s the way it works. The liver produces a
yellowish-green fluid called bile. Bile consists of water, bile salts,
and a pigment referred to as bilirubin, which is necessary for the
breakdown of fats by the intestines. The liver produces bile
continuously and its flow to the intestines is very important in the
overall function of waste elimination. If the production of bile somehow
becomes compromised, those fat globules collected by the lymphatic
system can't be processed by the liver and unfortunately remain in the
body.
So why am I telling you all this? Besides the fact
that I love researching this stuff? The main reason is because a clean,
healthy liver is the secrets to totally effortless and fast weight loss
AND the complete flushing of all that nasty cellulite we all hate so
much. When you liver is healthy and functioning at full capacity, you’d
be amazed at how easy it is to drop unwanted pounds.
So how do you go about detoxing your liver? The
first thing you absolutely must do is completely abstain from alcohol
for two full weeks. I know. This is a huge bummer. It is for me,
anyway–I am a huge fan of drinking a glass or two of wine with dinner
every night.
But alcohol devastates liver function–even a small
amount of alcohol. So you have to give it up for a couple of weeks to
flush out your system.
The next thing you have to do is give up all
caffeine. Again, this sucks big time. My job requires that I get up at
4:30 a.m. most days, so believe me, I understand that this isn’t easy.
But caffeine also severely inhibits liver function, so you’ve got quit
drinking it in all its forms (coffee, tea, soda). Though you can
introduce an occasional glass of wine or a beer back into your routine
after the two-week no-booze period, you really should try to give up
caffeine for good. Your liver will thank you, and so will your
waistline.
